This latest scam to hit the state relies on business owners being too busy to check their invoices. The CBA is urging all business owners to check bills carefully before they pay them. They may also receive telephone calls to confirm the unauthorised advertisements. Business owners should record all advertisements they have authorised and contact consumer affairs if they suspect an invoice is a scam. Dora ‘Malley 86 lost at least GBP30000 and her family estimate it could be as much as GBP50000 in responding to mailshots promising the chance of a big prize. She then started to get telephone calls which lured her into a bigger scam. She is one of an astonishing number of people taken in by promises of good luck bargains easy earnings or prizes out of the blue. Between them according to the ffice of Fair Trading British victims probably lose GBP3. A Leeds sub-postmistress reported her concern to police that an old woman was sending bundles of cash across the globe and she eventually refused to help her waste any more.
