NV Energy warns of telephone credit card scam

NV Energy customer service chief Bruce Bullock says company representatives never call customers seeking money credit card numbers or identification information. Bullock says anyone getting scam calls should notify the police. He says anyone who gave out credit card information should call their credit card company. Customers can reach NV Energy toll free at 800-331-3103.

In some cases the caller will claim to be a friend of the grandchild and the rouse ends with a request to wire money usually to a place in Canada. Most Iowa residents get suspicious before falling prey and there has only been one report of a person giving the money. “A Southwest Iowa grandmother lost $2900 to the scam last week” Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller said. “She got a call purporting to be her grandson who said he was in trouble with the law and asked ‘Gramma’ to send money so he could post bond. ”Miller said one of the red flags a call isn’t legitimate is the request to keep everything confidential which is usually explained as a ploy not to tell parents or other family members. The callers can glean information on their victims from social networking Web sites or by eliciting it during phone conversations. lder people are often the target of fraud because they are often polite when phoned and are less likely to report becoming a victim Yankey said.
