Bullock says anyone getting scam calls should notify the police. He says anyone who gave out credit card information should call their credit card company. “Consumers should not provide any personal or financial information in response to calls — particularly unsolicited calls — promising to save them money by reducing mortgage rates cutting credit card debt offering winnings or easy money. “ur advice to consumers: hang up on unsolicited offers” Blumenthal said. “This scam victimizes our most vulnerable citizens — homeowners desperate to save their families and escape financial ruin. This reprehensible ruse — false promises of reduced rates on mortgage and debt — is actually a scavenger hunt for private personal information on consumers that may be illegally exploited. Consumers who divulge details hopeful for better lives will find only deeper financial ruin. If consumers receive a call that appears to come from (203) 652-4022 — or any unsolicited offers – they should find out as much as possible about the call without giving out any personal or financial information. Consumers who have information regarding such calls – or who have been victimized by such a scam – should immediately report it to Blumenthal’s office by email at.

The calls are coming from two telephone numbers from Quebec Canada. When answered a recording states the caller is calling on behalf of Farmers-Merchants National Bank said Paxton Police Chief Bob Bane.

But before you give beware of scams disguised as reputable charities. Hinds County Sheriff and Jackson Police Chief Malcolm McMillin says he's gotten calls from numerous residents who have fallen victim to a telemarketing scam. The caller told them they were giving to the Fraternal rder of Police at JPD or the Hinds County Sheriff's Reserve. Neither legitimate organization does any fund raising by phone. “So we want to tell the public to make sure where they're giving contributions” says McMillin. “That this telemarketer does not represent the police department nor does this telemarketer represent the Hinds County Sheriff's Department.
